Sisters helping Sisters ( Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

As you all know, October is the official month for Breast Cancer Awareness. Many organizations worldwide are doing their part to educate, encourage and support thousands of women and families affected by breast cancer. One particular organization, Sisters Network, Inc. has been doing just that since 1994. With programs like Breast Cancer Assistance Program (B-CA), Pink Ribbon Awareness Initiative, and Gift for Life Block Walk, Sisters Network, Inc. is a “nationally recognized organization among leading medical establishments and breast cancer physicians and is a critical information resource for African American women.”

The founder Karen Jackson, a breast cancer survivor, saw a “lack of sisterhood” among other breast cancer survivors and sought to establish an organization that would later become the leading voice for survivors and their families. “A National African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization,” Sisters Network, Inc. is the only organization providing medical and financial support, treatment, education and survivor support for African American families in the United States.

So, in the spirit Breast Cancer Awareness month, and in true BFDC fashion, the national board has taken the first step in making a monetary donation to Sisters Network Inc. We are asking all collegiate chapters, members, alumni, and friends to also make financial contributions to the organization as they move forward in ensuring that African American women with Breast cancer receive the necessary support.

We would also like to take this time to thank the UCF and UM chapters for stepping out and creating their own events in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. GOOD JOB LADIES!

For the rest of October we would also like ALL chapters to participate in “THINK PINK THURSDAYS” in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Every Thursday, we ask that all chapters wear pink and take photos so we can post them to our site. THANK YOU!
