Do you spend lots of energy thinking about your five or ten year plan, or kicking yourself for poor choices you’ve made? Do you attempt to strategize your every move to get you to that place you know you want to be? Has that worked for you? Are you where you thought you’d be five years ago? Have poor choices in your past prevented you from making better choices in your present, or were those choices so bad that you’ve decided you’re not worthy of better choices?
I ask these questions because, as I get older and life takes it’s twists and turns, I have found that rarely do my plans ever line up exactly as I thought they would. While I have achieved many goals that I set for myself, not one of them happened the way I thought they would, in the place I planned for them, or by the deadline I had set for myself. Then there are other things that seem to have just come out of nowhere that are the greatest things I never knew I always wanted.
So as we prepare for this season of Thanksgiving, I challenge you to be thankful and appreciate this moment. Whether you are where you want to be, with whom you want to be with, doing the exact thing you want to do or not. This moment is more important than any other moment you have ever had or will ever have because it’s here right now. It’s your opportunity to be great, show love, give thanks, be HERE.
Yes, you should plan for your future and yes, you should learn from your past – all responsible adults should do those things. Just try not to spend so much time planning and learning (also known as wishing and dwelling) that you are unable to appreciate the new or unexpected opportunities standing right in front of you, simply because they are not a part of the plan.
“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.” ~Oprah Winfrey
Happy Thanksgiving and BFDC Love 🙂
